I made two new jean-things for my BJD. This first one is a simple straight-leg pair of jeans. I made a very simple hem, and added no details so they'll be smooth under a long top or sweater. (Which I still don't have for her- Must. Fix. That.)

The next is a jeanskirt. Same lack of detail for the same reason:

And a bonus picture of her:

Wigging out

Ah, the varied and sometimes frustrating world of BJDs. I've purchased 3 wigs so far, 1 that was packaged with my doll, and 2 that arrived to me today. So far, only one fits. It's the one who's style and color doesn't really match my doll. @_@
Here it is (Note that her eyes have changed.):
Are you seriously taking pictures like this without expecting the creepers to come out of the woodwork?
Pardon the boobies.
It looks a little bit better on her in pictures. I'm sure maybe a spiffy outfit to go with it will help.
And then there's this little disaster:
Kind of conehead chic
This is the 7/8" Dollzone "Shortcake", I ordered it at the same time as my doll.
And this one is actually a bit cute on her, but it's just not quite what I need:
Moddish
This is a Leekeworld Sadie 8/9" in black.

I'm definently going to be parting with the last two wigs. Message me if interested in adopting them. (I'll gladly trade for some clothing or laceweight yarn scraps)

I succumbed to the BJD bug

I've wanted a Ball Jointed Doll for about 6 years now, and on this past Friday, one finally came to me.
Arrival
She's an Elfdoll Emma, and she's still nameless...
By the window
And hairless, but that should change tomorrow. At the very least, she's not naked. I made her a dress:
The Dress
And a spiffy pair of jeans.
Prepared for anything?
I love her more and more every time I see her. She's perfect.

Finished work: Ellowyne shawl

Hey folks, happy memorial day weekend. It's been a while since a real-ish post around here, but I'm happy to announce that both this blog and Everything Else will be getting a pretty decent stream of postings for a bit. (And Everything Else will have art stuff, if you're into that)

Despite my silence, I've been getting a lot done. I finished the Noro Silk Kerchief, frogged the teal shawl, and knit this:

Men, women, and knitting: A discussion.

Through plastic eyes.
An interesting topic was brought up in my favorite group on Ravelry (Lazy, Stupid, and Godless- best group of knitters on the planet.) about the melodramatic issues women face when  trying to find a sweater pattern to knit for the man in their life. As a rule of thumb going back an assload of years, the average heterosexual man likes basic things when it comes to clothing. Deep, manly colors. Simple shapes without much pattern. A decent amount of ease to be comfy in. All those totally understandable requests, right?

Well, somewhere in the midst of realizing that the knitter is getting ready to knit millions of stitches in dark colors in a repetitive, basic stitch pattern with no shaping or interesting things about it at all a knitter can get a little stressed. She adds maybe a stripe or two of a slightly bright contrast color for interest...maybe adds a cable or nine....maybe adds a random side pocket or zipper....and by the end, the knitter has created something nowhere near what the dude would ever wear.

The knitter may not know this though, because the knitter is probably thinking "Alright, I just spent a whole month working on this bastard of a sweater, he BETTER wear this thing to death."

Annnnd, he doesn't. It's got an ugly ass ... pink?! ... stripe, a useless pocket, and a bunch of cables....She basically knitted a sweater version of any IKEA lamp *cymbal crash*

But that doesn't change the fact that she put hours into it, and now her little heart is broken. They break up.

This, my friends, is exactly how every "sweater curse" story I've heard works.

You know how to break the sweater curse without eloping?  Involve your boyfriend in the selection of a pattern/yarn, or at least keep in mind his tastes. Don't add a bunch of extra fiddly crap cause you're bored with a mile of basic stitches. Most importantly: Get a guy that would happily wear a pink and rainbow tie-dyed mohair dress if you knit it for them. (I'm looking at you, Wilgus.)

BEHOLD

I got back from my trip to DC on Wednesday, and these are some photos to memorial-ize the trip. (Note: I did a whole lot more than the photos depict here, these are just my favorite photos from it.)

Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soilder

Checked out some of the artwork at the Hirshhorn.

Checked out some of the local music scene. It's cool cause their local music scene is the mothafuckin military! So cool!

But I bet now you're all like "OMGWTF WHERE ARE THE SOUVENIEEEEEEERRRRSS?!"
Now now, unfortunately I did a good deal of resisting cheesy tourist things. A pin from the National Holocaust Memorial Museum where my cousin Adam works? Totally logical. A stuffed panda made of Soy and Kapok? Also logical, not screaming DC, while still nodding at one of the trip highlights (panda bears!) But there was one thing...one of those things that the second I saw it I HAD to buy it, no matter how illogical....

BEHOLD THE OBAMA MUG!

Yes.

Also, new doll pic (many more on my flickr)

- Our production of  Pee Wees Playhouse was absolutely delicious
- Got a doll in the mail. She's already obitsued. Random note: The SBH bodies are the kittens pjs! Even with Craziia's crazy-ass amount of hair she stands strong (and on her own if you balance her right.)
- DC TRIP IS COMING UP! Gaaah, excited

YES! After an eternity of moaning, I've finally taken a truly decent picture of my Blythe doll, Tabitha:

Bad News: Both of my Pullip girls are officially injured T_T

This was partially my fault, I think. I've got to start hounding around for extra type three arms for trade. Oh, and hair.
\
It breaks my heart a little every time I see this picture. She looks so sad : (  I do have her hand lying around somewhere, and I'm pretty sure it can be fixed without too much hassle, but it's still a bummer. I've been thinking about just getting her and Snow new bodies altogether, but on the other hand I love how their injuries make them a little more special and unique. (That, and I want another Blythe and new doll clothes like INSANITY, and am thinking that's going to be my next doll-related purchase.)

Aww : (

Mandatory....party?

Someone please, for the love of god, give me a reason to not go to the high brass cookout on Saturday. In my mind, the fact that I was told that the party was MANDATORY and to make it a priority is enough for me to say no. I do not want to be forced to bond with these people. Bonding will happen on it's own if it so desires to.

Other than that, things are going pretty good. Pee Wee's Playhouse is coming  together amazingly, and I think I'm memorized : D Again, I gotta say that the cast is amazing.

I question

The more I think about it, the more I get the feeling that maybe in order to keep my chances of being able to become a barber (a career idea I've been tossing around in my head for a while) I should keep my newly found chickboner for Sweeney Todd a subtle thing.

Oh well, no meat pies for me, I guess.

A post relating to Sweeney Todd.

Fiber
Since every knitter needs the "Omgz I was watching teh sweeney todd (lol johnny depp is hawwwtt!!!111) and I saw GARTER STITCH FINGERLESS GLOVES! OMG WWWAAAANNNNNT!!!"   Here's mine.

I actually have a really dark steely grey I've been planning to use to make fingerless gloves, either for me or Wilgus...so, naturally they are going to be of the seed stitch, demented barber variety.  You can bet your ass that when I get around to dying yarn and roving that there's going to be a super dark grey and bright blood red color.

Just to clarify to any stitchers and superfamous bloggers who may have their own show about knitting: I saw the movie on my giant-ass high-definition screen, and they are most certainly seed stitch mitts.

Considering that I'm lord knows how many late on this bandwagon, I'm sure that's old information

For once, good news.

Wilgus called me today from boot camp. I was sleeping (It was 5:00 in the afternoon, so not an unreasonable time to call.), thus missing and wasting one of his small handfull of calls he gets.
That is all.

Carbonized bamboo.

I don't know what they do to it to make it carbonized, but it's pretty cool. OwletsYarn on etsy sent me a few free mini-batts along with my order (Great seller, by the way.) and one of them was a BFL/Carbonized Bamboo/Sari Silk blend which I spun up just for the fun of it today. Soft. As. Ass. And in the same vein, Note to self: Never be too lazy or impatient to knit up a single before setting the twist...you just knew it was going to bias like hell.

I think I may be suffocating in boredom in loneliness, just judging by how I suddenly post stuff on here. God help me.

A belated Fiber Friday

Fiber
I've just now pulled the idea out of my ass that it would be cool to do my own, personal fiber friday, so here we go!
I only took pictures of one yarn I was working on earlier yesterday but I have a billion test bits of dark green yarn I did at various points during the week. (Some of which is turning into, shh, don't tell nobody, gloves for Wilgus)
NEON-ASS test yarn. I hope have enough of this left over to turn into enough yarn to make mitts for myself once I finally get my wheel.
